How Well the Cloud Handles Calls: The Best Cloud PBX Systems in the Test

For the fourth time in a row, the renowned trade magazine connect professional, together with its long-standing network testing partner zafaco, has examined the quality of cloud-based telephone systems.

The latest cloud PBX test sets clear new standards. The measurement methodology has been expanded and aligned even more closely with the actual user experience.

Further development of the testing methodology

Compared to last year, the testing methodology has been further refined. For the first time, continuous monitoring of product stability on connections from different internet providers was tested, enabling an even more accurate assessment of the reliability and performance of cloud PBX providers.
The significance of the results is also supported by round-the-clock measurements that reveal fluctuations depending on the time of day and week.

Reliability and quality in practical use

The focus is on reliability and quality in the daily use of the products.
In addition to voice telephony within the cloud PBX, particular interest is paid to cross-network connections. The analysis examines the stability and quality of transitions between landline and mobile networks and between different cloud PBX providers – a factor that is particularly relevant in a business environment.

Realistic test conditions

In order to obtain a realistic picture, the use of the products was mapped both at a central company location and in home offices distributed throughout the country.

Extensive testing reveals significant differences in quality
From 22 September to 19 October 2025, zafaco conducted a comprehensive test of cloud PBX providers.

A total of almost 500,000 measurements were included in the evaluation. This extensive data basis enabled a detailed analysis of the quality, performance and stability of the products of the cloud providers tested.
The study was based on an advanced testing methodology comprising six evaluation dimensions and 51 quality characteristics. This currently represents the most detailed and comprehensive evaluation basis on the market. It enables a precise assessment of both the technical product performance and the real user experience.

Overview of differences between providers

The latest Cloud PBX test paints a varied picture of the ten providers tested. For the first time, two providers stood out from the generally very strong field with an outstanding overall rating. Telekom achieved the best rating with 978 points, securing first place. STARFACE followed in second place with a total of 970 points.

Plusnet (944 points), Enreach (932 points), sipgate (931 points), 1&1 Versatel (915 points), O2 Telefónica (914 points), NFON (904 points) and easybell (903 points) took the remaining places with an overall rating of ‘very good’.
