The Agency's first ever annual broadband test report was published on 27 March 2017.

The Agency's first ever annual broadband test report was published on 27 March 2017.

Between 25 September 2015 and 25 September 2016, some 106,159 valid tests were carried out on stationary broadband lines and 53,651 on mobile broadband lines

The annual report can be viewed on the Federal Network Agency's website and at breitbandmessung.de. In addition to the test results themselves, the report also contains comprehensive information on the validation processes and methodology used.

"We found that a lot of end customers are not getting the maximum data rates agreed in their contracts. This applies across all broadband categories and providers, although there is some variation in the individual results," says Jochen Homann, President of the Federal Network Agency. "Having said that, of all the providers tested, half of fixed-network users received at least 60 percent of the maximum data transmission rates stipulated in their contracts, while with individual providers these rates were as high as 90 percent or more.”

The proportion of actual to contractually agreed data rates was lower for mobile broadband lines than for stationary broadband lines, according to the broadband test. Just over 70 percent of stationary broadband line users achieved data transmission rates corresponding to at least half of the maximum levels agreed in their contracts, while the figure for mobile broadband line users was below 30 percent.
