Interim conclusion of the mobile phone measurement week NRW

The first mobile measurement week (Mobilfunkmesswoche) NRW takes place from May 27th to June 3rd.

As part of the initiative, consumers can use the Funkloch (dead spot) app provided by the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) to record the network availability of their mobile provider and to report dead spots. The app can be downloaded from the relevant app stores (Apple, Google).

The mobile measurement week is the result of an initiative of the mobile coordinators in the cities and districts of NRW. The measurements are expected to provide a more detailed picture of the network coverage locally and across the state of NRW.

Developed by zafaco GmbH on behalf of the Federal Network Agency, the broadband / dead zone app measurement tool has been in operation since 2015 to test and assess the performance of stationary and mobile Internet access services. Measurements can be carried out independently of both provider and technology.

Interim conclusion of the mobile phone measurement week NRW

The first mobile phone measurement week in North Rhine-Westphalia from May 27th to June 3rd was a great success: In total, more than 36,000 citizens measured the network availability of their mobile phone providers and recorded over 13 million measuring points.

The data provided by the Federal Network Agency shows that North Rhine-Westphalia is on the right track when it comes to mobile phone coverage, but there are still gaps. Coverage with 4G or 5G was measured at almost 94 percent of the measuring points. 2G was detected at more than five percent of the measuring points and the proportion of dead spots measured was around 0.7 percent. However, the measurements via the Bundesnetzagentur's radio hole app do not cover the entire area, after all they only record the current network availability of the mobile network.
