The Funkloch-App can be downloaded free of charge and without advertising from the app stores (Google Play, Appstore). The reports are intended to provide a more accurate picture of the mobile coverage situation locally and across the country. The NRW mobile communications measurement week is an initiative of the mobile communications coordinators in the districts and independent cities.
According to current information from the Federal Network Agency based on calculations by the mobile network operators, 4G coverage in North Rhine-Westphalia is
- by at least one mobile network operator is 98.2 percent,
- between 90.6 and 95.2 percent depending on the network.
The new 5G mobile communications standard
- is already available in more than 93.7% of the area through at least one network operator,
- the individual established network operators cover between 66% and 88.5% of the area with 5G.
12% of the country's surface area are so-called "gray spots", i.e. areas that are covered by at least one, but not all network operators with 4G or 5G. Less than 1.6% of the country's surface area is covered by neither 4G nor 5G as "white spots".
