The latest IMTEST 2026 fixed-line internet provider test, carried out by zafaco GmbH on behalf of IMTEST, shows that Austria’s internet coverage consistently achieves a high standard of quality. Among both national and regional providers, the frontrunners achieve top marks in the overall comparison.
Over a million measurements for a realistic picture of network quality
For the Austrian fixed-line test, zafaco carried out a total of 1,042,862 measurements between 27 April and 24 May 2026. Providers were assessed on the basis of 55 quality criteria, which are grouped into five practical test dimensions:
- Data
- Stability
- Streaming
- Browsing
- Voice
With this multi-dimensional assessment approach, zafaco comprehensively captures the actual user experience in everyday life, going well beyond traditional bandwidth measurements.
Magenta Telekom comes out on top among nationwide providers
In a nationwide comparison, Magenta Telekom secured first place with an overall score of 1.26 (very good) and emerged as the winner of the IMTEST 2026 fixed-line test in Austria.
The following providers took the remaining places:
- A1 Telekom – very good (1.34)
- Hutchison Drei – very good (1.48)
- Telematica – good (1.69)
This means that three of the four nationwide providers have achieved an overall rating of “very good”, underlining the high standard of performance in the Austrian broadband market.
Salzburg AG tops the regional rankings
The results are also very close among the regional providers. Salzburg AG takes first place with an overall rating of 1.27 (very good). It is followed by:
- kabelplus – very good (1.48)
- LIWEST – very good (1.53)
The results show that regional network operators also offer excellent internet quality and represent high-performance alternatives to the nationwide providers in their coverage areas.
