Jochen Homann: "Broadband speed checker now even easier to access"

The servers for the Bundesnetzagentur's broadband speed checker – "Breitbandmessung" – are now linked directly with the world's leading internet exchange in Frankfurt operated by DE-CIX. Together with
DE-CIX and Core-Backbone GmbH, zafaco GmbH and the Bundesnetzagentur have put the link into operation and created even better speed test options.

"Linking up the broadband speed checker directly with DE-CIX's internet exchange has been an important step. I am pleased that our joint efforts have been successful. The speed checker is now even easier for internet service providers to access. Consumers will benefit from even more reliable internet speed tests," said Jochen Homann, Bundesnetzagentur President.

In the past few days, the broadband speed checker has been linked up directly with DE-CIX's Apollon platform in Frankfurt and with DE-CIX's locations in Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Munich via GlobePEER Remote. DE-CIX is providing two 100G access ports and corresponding interconnection services free of charge to enable easily accessible broadband speed tests in Germany. The broadband speed checker was first moved from Core-Backbone GmbH's network into a separate, autonomous system. The new system has a redundant 100 Gbit/s link with DE-CIX's internet exchange and Core-Backbone GmbH.

The link with DE-CIX's internet exchange means that broadband providers can directly connect their networks with the autonomous system.

This improves the transparent conditions for carrying out tests and for assessing internet access performance even more. Interconnection with the new autonomous system is open to all internet service providers. Requests can be sent by email to peering(at)breitbandmessung.de.
