Users can now access the measurement results of the broadband measurement/dead spot app differentiated by federal state. Regional information at the district and municipal level has also been published. The dead spot map can be enlarged to grid cells of 100 metres. A filter function allows users to select individual technologies, different network operators or specific time periods.
Use of the broadband measurement/dead spot app
Users of the broadband measurement/dead zone app have created the measurement points themselves using their own end devices and mobile phone contracts. They can log whether there is a dead zone or a mobile phone connection is available. The existing mobile phone technology can also be recorded. The more measurement points stored, the more detailed the information in the individual regions. However, the map display does not provide conclusive information about the network technologies available locally from a network operator. The app was developed on behalf of the Federal Network Agency and is available free of charge for Android and iOS in the respective stores.
The data displayed covers the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2024. They include a total of around 250 million measurement points from approximately 300,000 users of the broadband measurement/dead spot app. Users can download the geodata within the map. The downloadable data of the dead spot map is updated quarterly. The dead spot map is available at https://breitbandmessung.de.
Background: Gigabit-Grundbuch
The dead spot map is also part of the federal government's Gigabit-Grundbuch. This consists of six information services with different purposes for different target groups. The broadband atlas, mobile communications monitoring, broadband measurement map and dead spot map are available to all users. The infrastructure atlas and the analysis platform are restricted-access services for those involved in broadband expansion.
