Users can now also access the measurement results of the broadband measurement/dead spot app in graphical and tabular form. The graphics and tables contain the available measurement points and break them down by federal state and district for the year 2024. In addition, a differentiation is made according to network operators and technologies.
Use of the broadband measurement/dead spot app
Users of the broadband measurement/dead spot app themselves generate the measurement points with their own end devices and mobile phone contracts. They can log whether there is a dead spot or a mobile phone connection is available. The existing mobile communications technology can also be recorded. The more measurement points that are stored, the more detailed the information in the individual regions. However, the map display does not provide conclusive information about the network technologies of a network operator that are available locally. The app was developed on behalf of the Federal Network Agency and is available free of charge for Android and iOS in the respective stores.
The data displayed on the map covers the period from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2024. It includes a total of approximately 250 million measurement points from around 300,000 users of the broadband measurement/dead spot app. Users can download the geodata within the map. The downloadable data for the coverage map are updated quarterly.
The coverage map and the graphics and tables can be found at breitbandmessung.de.
Background Gigabit-Grundbuch
The coverage map is also part of the federal government's Gigabit-Grundbuch. This consists of six information services with different purposes for different target groups. The broadband atlas, mobile communications monitoring, broadband measurement map and coverage map are available to all users. The infrastructure atlas and the analysis platform are restricted-access services for those involved in broadband expansion.
Further information on the Gigabit-Grundbuch is published at gigabitgrundbuch.bund.de.
